Three times award-winning: The new thePrema presence detectors

(Haigerloch, 3 March 2014) The new thePrema presence detectors from ThebenHTS were awarded altogether three design awards for their elegant shape: „GOOD DESIGN“, „Plus-X“ and „iF“ award. Its floating drop shape and the combination of lens and housing represent a completely new design.

The design concept or „Form follows function“

The idea behind the design concept is to fuse lens and housing into one and to create a new, never before seen appearance. In this case: a large lens optic in the shape of a drop that simultaneously functions as housing. With its floating shape and the transparent lens housing, the presence detector looks like a forming drop at the ceiling. It forms a whole with the ceiling of the room and is harmonically integrated into the architecture. The functional lens element has been completely reinterpreted, and thus ensures a unique selling point for Theben. Its implementation needed a vast amount of know-how and a perfect development team, since the calculations for designing a lens of this kind are much more complex than for the common hemispherical shape. The lens is carried by a double-layered, transparent plastic ring. The colour of the background can shine through, so the presence detector can adapt to bright or dark backgrounds even better. The subtle Theben logo sits on the second plastic layer of the outer ring element and adds even more depth to the product.

The design of the thePrema line convinced altogether three international, independent expert panels and was awarded the following design awards in spring 2014: the „GOOD DESIGN“ award of the „The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts“, the „Plus-X“ award, one of the world's biggest innovation awards for technology, sports and lifestyle, as well as the popular „iF product design“ award. For 60 years, the „iF product design award“ has been a worldwide, recognised hallmark, when it comes to excellent design. The iF brand long ago established itself as a symbol for outstanding design quality on an international level.

The technology behind

However, thePrema is not only convincing by its appearance. The detector, which is offered in a Standard and in a Performance version, also integrates quite a bit of technology. The proven square 360° detection area prevents "blind spots" or overlaps in the room and reduces the number of presence detectors required. The thePrema product range includes presence detectors for light and presence switching as well as for integration in KNX building systems technology. The thePrema Performance presence detectors offer a detection area of up to 100 m2 and are especially suitable for open-plan offices and large surfaces with lots of daylight such as entrance halls. The thePrema Standard presence detectors are used in, among other places, individual offices, open-plan offices with axle design and corridors with high incident daylight. All devices offer a wide range of varied functions that improve comfort and save energy. The new theSenda S end customer remote control can be used to control the lighting, while theSenda P service remote control can be used to make configurations, such as lighting scenarios.
