Showrooms: Building automation with KNX pays for itself

In this reference you can learn how the clever combination of different Theben MIX actuators significantly reduced the channel price and bathed the showrooms in light thanks to KNX presence detectors.

MIX hits the spot: Automation using KNX quickly pays for itself

Whether it's hardware, tools, fittings, plumbing materials or industrial equipment 鈥 Fu?ger has catered for the needs of Geretsried over the past 50 years. Today, the wholesaler is an important partner to tradesmen and industry in the region. The new building, housing sales, warehousing and distribution, has an attractive bathroom display that tradesmen can use to provide their customers with advice. The building services engineering is as state-of-the-art as the modern architecture and fittings. For example, with accent lighting that turns a viewing into an experience. Or with functions for the efficient use of energy. Lighting control using ThebenHTS compact passage KNX presence detectors has proved worth while since it was first produced in 2008. Today, KNX saves money day by day that would otherwise go to the electricity supplier.

Counting on MIX range

As ever, the first factor when choosing an electrical installation is the price. The local electrician Gottfried Gschwendt sets that against saving energy, comfort, security and sustainable technology. He recommended the use of KNX and based his calculations on Theben devices. For example, with the affordable MIX range where basic modules can each be combined with two extension modules. That cuts down the number of bus devices and reduces the channel price. Moreover, this is very flexible as all types of device such as switch actuators, dimming actuators and heating actuators can be combined.

Short lighting periods in the warehouse

Automation pays for itself, particularly in warehouses with three floors. It used to be the case that lights were left on all day in old buildings. Today, the lights in the 35 warehouse aisles are only constantly on in the early hours when orders are processed and it's all go. From 9 a.m. to the end of the working day, when the aisles are only occasionally occupied, the automatic system ensures the lights are on for a short period of time. Only one presence detector per aisle is required. The special factor of compact passage KNX is its ability to cover a long, rectangular detection areas such as corridors and to respond when the warehouse aisle is first occupied. And the lights in the bathroom display are not on unnecessarily. Basic lighting guides the visitor through the display and the baths light up spontaneously when somebody approaches. This is due to compact office EIB presence detectors with their square detection areas that can be exactly matched to the individual plots.

Central off at the end of the working day

KNX provides comfortable and energy-saving lighting throughout the whole building. The display window and facade catch the eye in the evening thanks to automatic lighting scenes. Lighting, heating and blinds in offices are controlled with MIX actuators. An intuitive control panel in the staff area can call up central functions such as constant light in the warehouse and sales room at the start of the working day, and reduced lighting for cleaning in the evening and an OFF function, which switches off all lighting, reduces room temperatures and activates an automatic mode.
